Old Radnor, a village that lies between our Gore and Dolyhir quarries in Wales, has received a potentially lifesaving grant to fund a defibrillator.

In 2016, the Old Radnor Community Council applied for a lottery grant to install three defibrillators in outdoor cabinets in the nearby villages of Kinnerton, Evenjobb and Walton. They wanted to install the devices as only three percent of cardiac arrests happen within the recommended retrieval distance of a defibrillator.

The council were granted the funding, however they were unable to cover the cost of installing a defibrillator in Old Radnor village as well as the nearby villages. As a result, members of the council approached the staff at Gore and Dolyhir Quarries to ask for help to get a unit for the village. In total, we donated £1,500 for the installation of the defibrillator which enables the local community to give a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. It’s an essential part in trying to save the life of someone who is in cardiac arrest.

Lewis Jenkins, Gore quarry manager, said: “We’re proud to support our local communities. We hope that the device doesn’t ever need to be used, but if it does it can be a potential life saver for someone suffering with a heart attack.
